European Identity - round table debate
The round table debate was based on the thesis that further European integration is not possible without creating “European identity”. To reach this, culture should be judged an important dimension of integration. People in EuropeEurope should be aware of their shared history and values. At the same time the idea of “European identity” does not exclude cultivation of awareness of local, regional and national cultures. EU inhabitants must reject stereotypes and prejudices about each other and show desire to get to know culture of each member states. Otherwise historical divisions of will be retained. That debate analyzed also the process of stereotypes building and its connections with the national identity. It was shown how the national prejudices influence international relationships. Examples of some countries were used to present how to effectively conduct national branding campaigns.
